The new Lancia Ypsilon will be manufactured in Zaragoza

It will be from 2024 when the new Lancia Ypsilon production begins at the Figueruelas plant in Zaragoza, as confirmed by the Stellantis group. After a few years in which the brand has remained far from the group’s product strategy, the idea is to vigorously resume the historic firm, which is seeking a premium position together with DS and Alfa Romeo within the group.

Luca Napolitano, CEO of Lancia, confirmed the news on his Linkedin profile. The new Ypsilon, which will share many technical elements with the Opel Corsa or the Peugeot 208 (it will have hybrid and 100% electric versions) is the first step in the brand’s Strategic Plan, which includes two more models until 2028, a large saloon that will take the witness of the Lancia Thema and the return of the Delta in the compact segment.

The brand has already shown a guide on what its future models will be like with the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE prototype. Some details of that concept will be transferred to the Ypsilon, which will be assembled on the same production line as the Opel Corsa, Crossland or Citroen C3 Aircross. It seems that it will not be the last model to arrive at the Aragonese plant. Last October, the director of Figueruelas, José Luis Alonso Mosquera, announced that the plant would receive a new model with an electric version. It is speculated that it could be the new Peugeot e-208, but for now it is not confirmed.

Some 60,000 units will leave the factory, since the supply of semiconductors has already returned to normal (there were production shifts stopped for this reason until last February). The manufacture of the new Lancia will imply (according to union estimates) incorporating a new shift and hiring more than 600 people.

The Ypsilon had already been sold in Spain, the latest model dates from 2016, although it was an update of the fourth generation, launched in 2011. After the creation of Stellantis, its sale was reduced to the Italian market, where it maintained very good records. of sales. This utility, in its future iteration, aims to be one of the most “elegant and innovative” options in the segment, according to the group. Its presentation should take place at the end of 2023.
