The Swiss have changed their colors despite continuing, albeit for the last year, with Alfa Romeo. The team has changed its characteristic rojiblanco of recent seasons for a red and black that has attracted attention of all viewers.
In addition, unlike the three previous teams, Alfa Romeo has shown its car for 2023. And modifications have been seen, especially in the rear: “We have changed the rear end, the gearbox fitting and the suspension.”
Sauber has put a lot of effort into the car this season, as confirmed by technical director Jan Monchaux: “This car is an evolution of the past, reflecting the new rules and introducing important changes in the areas where we have found great improvements. We believe it will be quicker than the successful 2022 car and, more importantly, more reliable.”
And that is the great objective of Sauber for the last season of Alfa Romeo, be more mechanically reliable. The Swiss team, despite a bump in the second half of the season, showed great speed that earned them seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship, but with several reliability problems that ended up decanting sixth place in favor of Aston Martin.
Valtteri Bottas, his consistency as the main weapon
With Zhou’s usual rookie problems, Bottas had to lead the project throughout the season. The Finn was signed due to his experience and consistency and he did not fail. 49 points for a final tenth position in the World Championship that helped Alfa Romeo a lot.
Now, depending on the competitive leap that the team can take, Bottas has to repeat the results of last season againwhich will mean an increase in points if it does not fall into reliability problems.
Guanyu Zhou and the leap of the second year
The Chinese pilot had a season marked by the scare of his tremendous silverstone accident. Apart from that fact, it was a very difficult season where he had quite a few reliability problems during the first part of the year, when Alfa Romeo was more competitive, and ultimately he only scored six points.
However, Zhou managed to bring the car back intact on most occasions, something that liked the Swiss team. For 2023, the logical step is to increase performance, entering points more regularly to be able to collaborate with Bottas.
