The promise of F1 for 2026 that will delight the fans and the drivers

Noise is part of the essence of Formula 1. It is a premise shared by drivers, teams and fans of the premier category of motorsports and to which Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Liberty Media and head of the championship.

The ‘Great Circus’ will release a new technical regulation in 2026 that will mean a technological revolution. Engines will be simplified and will bet on the synthetic fuels to reduce emissions and make the sport environmentally sustainable.

This direction has the support of the teams and was key, among other things, to attract Audi and convince Honda to return as a manufacturer in 2026 at the hands of Aston Martin. However, it worried the fans, since this change could mean a reduction in noise and in the power of the engines as already happened in 2014.

The sound, key for Domenicali

That regulation change meant a great loss of interest, mainly because the engines became much less noisy. But the current owners of Formula 1 have learned their lesson and assure that they will not stumble over the same stone again, as Stefano Domenicali has explained.

“The intention is to make sure that in the new regulation the noise of the engines is louder, because that gives emotion“, Domenicali explained in statements to ‘Radio 3AW’.

“It’s really what our fans want to hear and it’s our duty to commit to that.“, has added the maximum president of Formula 1.

The 2026 engines will continue to have six cylinders, like the current ones, although the electrical part will be simplified by eliminating the MGU-H, that is, the thermal energy storage system, which triggers the costs of current propellants. This will allow the revs to increaseand therefore, so will the noise.
