talk about toyota ae86 It is talking about a really important vehicle for the Japanese brand. That denomination corresponds to the fifth generation of the Corolla and has been one of the most remembered for its qualities. Now, surprisingly, it has returned to the Tokyo Motor Show, although in a very different way from what one might expect. The Japanese firm has created two very special versions of the classic model using current technology. It opens up a range of possibilities and shows that there is hope for many.
We are talking about two restomods, a kind of restoration with notable modifications, which in this case corresponds mainly to the mechanical part. It is committed to converting this model into a “zero emissions” in two different ways, each with its advantages and disadvantages. The Toyota AE86 H2 Concept uses hydrogen using the famous Trueno version with retractable headlights. Of course, to move, its 1.6-liter 4A-GEU four-cylinder engine is adapted to run on that fuel.
In fact, the hydrogen comes from two tanks which are identical to those used by the Toyota Mirai and which are housed in its trunk. The power that the engine generates with the mods is unknown, but other changes have been required to cope with it. For example, this AE86 H2 Concept mounts some wheels 14-inch watanabe shod with Bridgestone Potenza RE71RS F tires and improved braking system; plus new Bride front seats. Components that also appear in the other prototype.
The Toyota AE86 BEV Concept It is a modification that makes the classic electric. Interestingly, the electric motor from a Tundra HEV and the batteries from a Prius PHEV are mounted. Delivers 93 CV and 190 Nm of torque, although its autonomy is a mystery. And probably the most curious thing about the electric prototype is that it mounts a six-speed manual transmission. It also benefits from the same wheels and upgraded brakes, though it also gets Bilstein shocks and a Nardi steering wheel.
