This is the most expensive Ford Sierra ever

The English auction house Silverstone Auctions knew that one of the vehicles that would sell best today would be this 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500. There were several reasons, it is a very rare edition, of Special homologation, with just 8,356 km on its odometer and in an incredible state of conservation. They hoped to raise around $200,000, but what happened at the time of auction left everyone in a state of perplexity.

The Sierra Cosworth RS500 sold for a staggering $714,000quadrupling the original expectations and thus making it the most expensive ford sierra in history. An example of its immaculate condition is that the current owner located new spare parts and even put a set of replacement wheels to prevent the original ones from supporting the weight of the car since he acquired it 14 years ago.

The history of the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 with special homologation

By 1986, Ford was fully involved in touring car racing, notably at the BTCC.. That is why the brand created the Sierra Cosworth coupe to homologate its racing vehicle, launching the standard version on the market and building more than 5,000 copies.

But then, Ford took advantage of a section of the regulation that allowed him to improve the track car selling only 500 copies of an adjusted street car with the necessary evolution. That car was the RS500which received a deeper front spoiler with air intakes instead of fog lamps, an additional spoiler at the rear, and a new version of the Cosworth-developed 2.0-litre YBD DOHC engine that featured a bigger turbo and intercooler, a more robust block and a second set of injectors.

Although the street version of the RS500 got a small power increase going from 201 HP to 217 HPthe aforementioned modifications allowed Ford to squeeze much more out of the racing vehiclethus achieving several victories around the world.
