When the first Toyota C-HR was launched in 2016, few thought it would have such a success. But combining a hybrid powertrain and the contained size SUV body was just what many were looking for. In 2020 came the update (with a second hybrid engine) and now the Toyota CHR Prologue advances, in prototype form, the second generation of the hybrid SUV.
We do not doubt the brand when it says that the design of the production model will be very similar. Because it looks like the bZ4x… and because the previous C-HR Concept also delivered what it promised afterwards.
This leaves us with the design language that the brand defines as hammerhead (hammerhead shark), with very narrow headlights and a very prominent grille. Details such as the lack of mirrors to use may not reach production, but perhaps the door handles flush with the body, both details to improve aerodynamics. It has been designed in Europe, more specifically in the ED2 studio in the south of France, where the first generation was also forged.
The short overhangs, smaller than the current one, have caught our attention. That will result in a larger cabin, which is one of the problems of the current model. And that is precisely what Toyota boasts in its statement.
The most interesting, its mechanical proposal… that we will not know until the arrival of the model. It will be offered as a hybrid (possibly with one -or both- of the mechanics of the Toyota Corolla 2023 and also as a plug-in hybrid (perhaps using the same mechanics of the Prius 2023. And a detail that does not seem minor to us: the batteries of the PHEV model will be assembled on European territory.
