Some time ago, the manufacturer that today reminds us more of motorcycles had a huge presence in the world of cars. Triumph was one of the most important British manufacturers until its demise in 1984. Triumph is and will be remembered for the beautiful roadsters of the 50s, 60s and 70s; unique vehicles that are reborn today thanks to the concept Triumph TR25, the electric rebirth of the Triumph brand. Mind you, with permission from BMW, which is the current owner of the Triumph Motor Company trademark.
In 2024 will be 40 years since British Leyland decided to discontinue the brand in 1984. Until then all we know are Monster, Scramblers, Daytonas and Tigers. A legacy linked to the world of very powerful motorcycles and tremendously recognizable pieces such as the Boneville. But going back to what concerns us, let’s talk about the TR25, this 100% electric concept that the British design house Makkina has decided to revive to pay tribute to Triumph with a prototype inspired by the TR2.
The TR25 is a BMW-approved prototype of format single-seater barchetta with a retro-futuristic air and that is mounted on the basis of the BMW i3S. The bodywork is inspired by the TR2 «Jabbeke» with which the brand achieved several speed records in 1953. About the proposed specifications we talk about a combination of 1,095 kg weight and a 184 hp (135 kWh) engine. The autonomy for its part is 306 km with a battery pack of 42.2 kWh capacityall of it seated in the base of the BMW i3S from which the battery pack comes.
Design
The TR25’s design stands out above all else. From its chassis to the body panels, everything is made of carbon fiber, giving you a stylish and modern look. However, despite its advanced material, the vehicle retains the same design as its predecessor, seeking to highlight its true focus: driving pleasure in its purest form, as we read in the official press release.
As for the details, the TR25 fuses the classic with the futuristic in a perfect symbiosis. The headlights look like a pair of googly eyes to us and the rounded fenders are clear nods to the iconic TR2. On the other hand, the angularly designed 21-inch alloy wheels, scissor doors and upgraded LED taillights for better aerodynamics are touches typical of the most cutting-edge concept vehicles.
At the rear, the exposed carbon buttress houses a reversing camera, fusing modern utility with clean aesthetics. The tiny, albeit inconspicuous, fly screen is the only element that makes any concession to weather protection.
Entering the cabin, we find a minimalist aesthetic interior design. Blue leather and metal predominate, creating a refined and elegant atmosphere. Despite the visual simplicity, every detail has been carefully designed to amplify the driving experience.
The driver’s seat, although fixed, has been designed to provide comfort to people of all heights. Thanks to the sliding of the steering wheel and pedals, even those taller than 1.90 can find a comfortable and ergonomic driving position. He three-spoke steering wheel, pays homage to the legendary Jabbeke TR2 and it has a small digital screen located on its back, providing additional information in an intuitive way.
In addition, in the central column of the car, we find three toggle switches that allow the selection of the different driving modes. These functional and aesthetically appealing details underscore the attention to detail and passion for excellence that characterizes the Triumph TR25.
In short, this vehicle is presented as a fusion of classic beauty and cutting-edge innovation in an impressive design. YEAH BMW has known how to get brands like Mini or Rolls Royce out of the well that prevents us from dreaming of a future return of Triumph. Time will tell.
