Euro NCAP is one of the world references in security tests. So much so that the results directly impact consumer preferences. That is why many are attentive when the agency announces the safest cars of 2022.
On this occasion, Euro NCAPdivided the prizes “Best in Class” in five different categories. It is striking that they are all electrified, at the same time that two of the winners were Chinese. Undoubtedly, times change and Europe is immersed in a remarkable evolution.

Small Family Car: ORA Funky Cat

In the small family car category, the ORA Funky Cat is exceptionally well-equipped and, as the best in class, beat out several family brands by achieving 92% adult occupant protection, 83% child safety children, 74% in pedestrian protection and 93% in assistance systems. Without a doubt, this Great Wall car is one of the biggest surprises in these “Best in Class” awards.
Large Family Car: Hyundai IONIQ 6

According to Euro NCAP, this electric vehicle “achieved exceptionally high results in adult occupant protection with 97%. Fully electric and featuring the latest safety technologies, the IONIQ 6 certainly follows the trajectory of recent automotive developments. For child occupants, it provided good protection for all critical body regions of the 6- and 10-year-old dummies in frontal offset and side barrier tests, scoring full marks in this part of the evaluation.
Small SUV: Tesla Model Y
Tesla was the protagonist in these awards, being the Model Y one of the winners. This model achieved 97% safety for adults, 87% for children, 82% for pedestrians, and 98% for assistive devices and technologies.
Large SUV: WEY Coffee 01

The second Chinese brand car on our best-in-class list is the WEY Coffee 01, again highly equipped and performing well in all categories. This model obtained 91% protection for adults, 87% for children, 79% for pedestrians and 94% for assistants. It was closely followed by the LEXUS RX, but ultimately, the award went to this car that was also developed by Great Wall.
Luxury car: Tesla Model S

The second Tesla to stand out was the Model S that prevailed by obtaining 94% in adult protection, 91% in child safety, 85% in pedestrians and 98% in assistance systems. It is striking that despite its seniority, security standards remain quite high.
