Valentino Rossi relives the confrontation with Lorenzo and Márquez in 2015: “I deserve the tenth title”

valentino rossi He is a motorcycling legend. His 26 years in the championship MotoGP and his nine world titles endorse him. He ended up ending his successful career in 2021, at least on two wheels, as he now competes in GT World Challenge cars. And after a year away from him, he has reviewed his career in MotoGP.

In an interview with ‘Motorsport-Total’, the Italian driver stated that he does not regret any of his decisions: “To be honest, I do not regret anything in the sense of the decisions I made. Of course the time with Ducati was difficult for me, but it was a great challenge. Me as an Italian rider on an Italian motorcycle, if we had won, we would have made history.”

‘Il Dottore’ refers to his affair with ducati in 2011 and 2012, two especially difficult years in which he was never able to compete for wins or the title. In fact, he has been an academy pilot of his, ‘Pecco’ Bagnaiathe one who has achieved the milestone that Rossi was looking for: winning with an Italian motorcycle while being Italian.

Rossi also revealed that there is one aspect of his career that makes him “sad”: a tenth title. The ex-Yamaha finished his career as the third rider in history with the most titles (9) tied with Mike Hailwood and Carlo Ubbialibut without being able to break the two-figure barrier, something that only Giacomo Agostini (15) and Ángel Nieto (13).

“I’m a little sad that I didn’t win the tenth title. Mainly because I think I quite deserve it based on my level and speed. I lost the title twice in the last race of the season, so I think I deserved the tenth“, he confessed.

The Italian was left at the gates in 2006, when his fall in Valencia put the title on a plate for Nicky Hayden, and in 2015, when Jorge Lorenzo was proclaimed champion after the controversial event in 2015 between Rossi and Márquez in Sepang that ended with sanction for the ’46’.
