there will be a sanction for Marc Márquez in MotoGP

TO Marc Márquez He was penalized for irresponsible driving last Sunday after the crash that ended his career and that of two other drivers. At the end of the day, the FIM notified the pilot of a sanction for Argentina.

This sanction consisted of a double ‘long lap’, or what is the same, long lap. However, what the note issued by the FIM indicated was that this penalty would have to be served immediately in the subsequent race. And if he did not dispute it (due to injury), he was exempt.

Well, that’s not the case anymore. This Tuesday, the FIM has rectified and has considered the sanction valid. Now it indicates that Marc Márquez will have to complete the double ‘long lap’ when he is recovered from the fracture that he has in his right hand.

Clarification on the sanction

The FIM responded according to the Article 1.21.2 of the FIM Major Championship Regulations. Which said that all pilots should drive responsibly without harming the rest of the competitors. Otherwise, you will be penalized.

The second report adds a couple more articles that explain what the sanctions are and the possible modifications that the FIM may make as it deems appropriate. The 3.2.1 of the same regulation talks about the “definition and application of the penalties”, and the 3.5.5, “notification of the judges”.

This is what is specified in the note under the title “Application of the sanction imposed on Marc Márquez, rider ’93’, by the FIM commissioners panel”.

“After the decision of the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel taken on 03/26/2023 at 15:13, we hereby clarify your decision regarding applicability. Considering the injury and non-participation of Marc Márquez in the Argentine Grand Prixand with a view to complying with the intention underlying the decision made by the Panel of Commissioners, the double long lap penalty must be served by the rider in the next MotoGP race in which he can participate,” reads the statement.
