At Tech Day 2023, the Volkswagen Group announced some of the upcoming innovations for electric cars that it will unveil in its different brands, specifically in the areas of batteries, charging systems and electronic components.
The most striking is a new electric drive system for its vehicles of the future, which includes all the core components: batteries, electric motors, pulse converters and thermal management systems.
The brand indicates that having a self-developed system and not having to buy components from third parties It will allow you to reduce your cost by up to 20%.

The pulse converter is the brain of the electric powertrain and is largely responsible for efficiency and performance, says the brand. For the first “Volkswagen Designed” pulse converter, the hardware and software were redesigned from the ground up to be modular, which means that they can be implemented in all types of vehicles, from compact cars to sports cars with more than 500 kW (670 Hp) of power.
“The technology is currently being developed for implementation in series production and can already be used in the next generation of the MEB platform,” Volkswagen said.
When it comes to thermal management systems, Volkswagen is working on entirely new solutions. While a large number of individual modules and long connection lines are used today, in future they will be replaced by an extremely compact integrated thermal modulewhich will control all the air conditioning, including that of the high-voltage battery, and will thus have a great impact on the autonomy and fast charging capacity of the vehicle; Nissan e-POWER, does it ring a bell?
In addition to efficiency, the main development goal for all electric powertrain components is scalability, as large economies of scale reduce costs.
This “all-in-one” system is expected to be implemented from 2025 on Volkswagen’s new generation of electric cars.
