“We are happy that it is not around. It does not bring back good memories”

Helmut Marko doesn’t want Lewis Hamilton around. The Red Bull advisor has made it clear after qualifying for the British Grand Prix, in which Max Verstappen has achieved pole position, ahead of the McLaren of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Mercedes has been, along with Aston Martin, the big loser on Saturday at Silverstone. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton will start from the sexta and seventh positionrespectively, something Marko celebrates.

“We’re glad Lewis Hamilton isn’t by our side, which is reassuring. Because in that sense, good memories do not arise“, Marko has said in statements to the Austrian newspaper ‘Kronen Zeitung’.

The Austrian has not missed the opportunity to throw a ‘dart’ at the seven-time world champion due to the accident he had with Max Verstappen on that same circuit in 2021, when both were playing the World Cup.

After a tough battle during the first round, Hamilton touched Verstappen when trying to overtake him at Copse, the fastest corner on the track. the dutch finished crashing into the guardrails at more than 300 kilometers per hour and had to be transferred to the hospital, while the Briton took advantage of the fact that his great rival was not on the asphalt to claim victory.

That accident marked the start of a rivalry that led to the most epic season finale in recent memory, with the title being decided on the final lap of the final race.

This year, Max Verstappen can breathe, since history will not repeat itself at Silverstone, or at least not with Lewis Hamilton as protagonist.
