Fernando Alonso will face in 2023 a new stage in Formula 1. A new and exciting stage, with the green colors of a team Aston Martin that is growing and that he is making a huge investment to win the World Cup. The Asturian, two-time champion with Renault, wants to add a third title.
And he thinks the right place is Aston Martin. For ambition it will not be, then Alonso has already warned that your new team it is not to be “fourth, fifth or sixth”, and that he has come “to win the World Cup”.
The British agree with him, but with a ‘but’: in 2023 they will not be able to fight for the title.
“Let’s face it, we are not going to fight for the World Cup in 2023. That is not going to happen… but we are on the way. We are getting stronger,” says Tom McCullough, chief engineer at Aston Martin.
And he continues: “Alonso is realistic, if we can fight with the top 3 teams we would already be happy. He is ambitious, he will push us in every area.”
“I am starting to get to know Alonso. He is very competitive, and he is focused on doing well. He sees a great future in this team, and I am happy that he is here with us. He will not be happy fighting in the middle zone”, he said in words collected by the newspaper ‘As’.
In that sense, he is clear about what has weighed down Vettel and Stroll’s car: “The ‘poising’. We suffered a lot with him. We improved, but we are still far away. We know where the limitations are and what should we do”.
Alonso will be able to test for the first time the Aston Martin in the Abu Dhabi tests, once i finish the present F1 World Cup which is disputing with the Alpine team.
