Renault Logan 2023, on test. Honest, fuel-efficient city man

Towards the end of 2022 we saw the arrival of the 2023 Renault Logan, a small subcompact sedan with which the French brand intends not to be left out of the segment that, by the way, brings together very serious rivals, some of them already presented in AUTOCOSMOS so that you, as the end user, can evaluate the best option.

In fact, that is the interesting thing about this large group; there are options for almost all tastes and budgets, but in case you are still not clear, don’t worry, The questions you should ask yourself are simple:

  • What am I looking for as a user in this type of vehicle?
  • How far can the product go in terms of convenience?
  • How much am I going to spend on fuel?
  • How much will the insurance cost me?

Renault Logan 2023: Discreet but contemporary design

Well, starting with the first question, Renault Logan is a vehicle suitable for carrying out “basic” transport tasks, without complications or promises of excitement. In this small sedan everything is perceived as simple but functional, that is, the design remains sober, it is perhaps the most “serious” in the segment visually speaking. Its posture is high (18 cm from the ground), there are no exterior components that make a difference or contrast in design with respect to the rest; Nothing out of the ordinary:

  • Canvases that feel thin
  • slightly rustic plastics
  • Tinted windows
  • chrome details
  • 16” wheels.

So, if yours is discretion or go unnoticed on a day-to-day basis, Logan may be your option.

Renault Logan 2023: Basic but functional environment

The Renault Logan cabin remains in the spectrum of simplicity, however, the effort to keep it updated in terms of equipment is noticeable, especially for the tested version (Instense CVT). We could say that Logan understands that the simplicity of its components or materials does not mean ugliness, which, coupled with the style that Renault usually captures in terms of design and ergonomics, results in a proposal that is nothing new but that is still liked.

However, the structural “stagnation” begins to take its toll on issues of ergonomics and interior space, especially in the rear seats, which will be unbearable when driver or passenger are of considerable height.

Then, Renault logan returns to “remove the caste” and momentarily surprises us again with a huge trunk (illuminated and very baroque opening), capable of transporting 510 liters. OK, not many, but for this segment, you also have to know how to recognize. The rest of the equipment, as I mentioned, maintains a simple, but well-balanced honesty:

  • Electrical package (doors, windows, mirrors and locks)
  • Air-conditioning
  • Seats upholstered in imitation leather (Intense CVT version)
  • Android & Apple Carplay connection
  • 7 inch screen.

Renault Logan 2023: Proven formula awaiting an update

When it comes to performance, Logan is faithful to the classic philosophy of mobility: go from point A to point B and that’s it.. On the road there could be no sprinting intentions, intrepid manoeuvres, and if we can avoid winding sections, the better. And not because you can’t, but because you shouldn’t.

Renault Logan, structurally it is no longer prepared for the above, not because it is bad, but because of a lack of updating, because it is heir to what was once the Nissan Aprio and all that architecture has reached its limit. Even so, it manages to remain an interesting option thanks to the honest work of its 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed CVT (unit tested).

This formula is enough to develop 115 Hp and 112 lb-ft of torque, which guarantee a ride that is as comfortable as it is efficient, as long as we do not exceed the range of 110-120 km / h where Logan will begin to lose poise, as well as sensitivity in the direction. The comfort of the ride will disappear and his tall posture, coming from the Renault Stepway, will begin to play against him, especially when going through curves above the mentioned speeds.

Renault Logan 2023: Fuel performance, its best argument

Although we found surprises during the handling, given its lack of structural update, the mechanical part reserved the best card from Renault Logan for last. And to evaluate its real consumption, as we always do, we also subject it to real driving conditions, dressing the matter with a couple of guests from the segment to make a comparative list already in AUATOCOSMOS.

So we went to do kilometers; 109.4 km, to be exact. Streets, expressways, suburban roads and highway, the latter being the most challenging for the Logan, which was to be expected since its natural habitat is the city. Either way andThe 1.6-liter engine fought against the current to give us a final combined consumption of 12.6 km/l. This means that Renault Logan only required 8.6 liters of gasoline to travel the aforementioned distance. Make your accounts according to the price variation between gas stations and evaluate yourself.

We give it an “acceptable”, with great desire that the brand offers new weapons so that then Renault Logan really shines within this competitive segment. In the meantime, it’s still a good first car, or application transport, and even, the gateway to sedans, for “limited” budgets. We look forward to a generational change.
