The Goddess Cadillac It was the ornament that was present in almost all the vehicles of the American firm between 1930 and 1956. Something similar to the “spirit of ecstasy” of Rolls-Royce, which was precisely one of its competitors at that time. Over time it was lost and it was difficult for us to see it again due to current regulations. However, a change of era in the brand has made that icon recover again. Appears in the Cadillac Celestiq to pay homage to the past looking to the future.
The Celestiq is the new flagship in electric format, a model that also wants to be the maximum representative of luxury and technology in Cadillac. Incorporating the goddess on the hood was impossible due to the new design language and also due to legal issues. But that figure appears fully updated in two of the most important points of the car. Abroad, it is present in the charging areailluminated to match the light that indicates the charge status of your batteries.
And inside the Celestiq, the Cadillac goddess appears on the center console, on a circular knob that serves to control the infotainment. She is cast in glass and also backlit for prominence. In addition, the aluminum outer circumference rotates independently, so the goddess will always be upright. The original figure of the “Cadillac Goddess” was the work of William N Schnell of Ternstedt Manufacturing Company (subsidiary of General Motors). It dates from between 1928 and 1929, and wanted to convey “a spirit of unsurpassed speed and power, along with perfect grace and balance.”
Although it took a while to become iconic, the fact that it was present in the Cadillac V-16 spoke volumes about the level of exclusivity it wanted to convey. Over the years it would end up being lost and in 2016 the idea of recovering it was resumed. Its renewed design belongs to Richard Wiquist, from GM Design, who wanted to give the figure greater movement. The success has been evident and the Cadillac goddess will be present in the production Celestiq completely handmade. Looking to the future, it could be added to future releases related to that level of quality and evolution.
