The sudden death of cameraman Mario Biondo had a great media impact in 2013, in part, due to the strange circumstances in which it occurred and also due to the notoriety of his wife at that time, the television presenter Raquel Sánchez Silva. Now, A documentary series arrives on Netflix with new testimonies and research material of the case.
‘The last hours of Mario Biondo’ arrives Ten years after the event that caused such a stir, with the intention of offering a retrospective and reflective vision, as explained by the director María Pulido. “Our purpose has been Approaching events from the point of view of journalistic investigation. Through hundreds of hours of work, conversations with experts and key testimonies, our goal has always been for the docuseries to offer the viewer, for the first time, all the information so that they can assess the facts of a case that has always been highly marked by media debate.”
The investigation has resulted in more than 200 hours of recording and twenty interviews with relatives, journalists or criminologists who share how they experienced the case and their vision of what happened. The docuseries focuses on the complex investigation that tried to clarify the circumstances of a case with numerous questions.
It must be remembered that shortly after death in Spain it was filed as a possible suicide When the body was found half-hanged and without signs of violence, Biondo’s family began the procedures for a new investigation by the Italian justice system. The result came last summer when the Italian Supreme Court determined that Biondo’s death was not accidental or self-inflicted but a murder committed by unknown perpetrators and covered up as a suicide.
The advance with which Netflix announces the premiere recreates a call received by Santina, Mario Biondo’s mother, and in which she is informed that at the time of her son’s death there were two other people in the house. The docuseries has not been without controversy either due to the family’s distrust of the project upon learning that it has the participation of the manager and friend of Raquel Sánchez Silva at the time of the event, Guillermo Gómez.
