Japanese-style revelry at the Jarama Circuit

Japanese-style revelry at the Jarama Circuit

We are not going through the best time for true fans of the motor world. Unfortunately, there is little room left for those purists who love the smell of fuel and revere the manual transmission. It seems clear that electrification floods everything and will be the absolute protagonist in the future of the automotive industry. But from time to time events like the Toyota GR Day. A day on the circuit to enjoy the most sporting character of the brand through all kinds of activities that excite any petrol head to lend

It is the second time that this “Japanese revelry” is celebrated in Madrid Jarama Circuit, where we had the opportunity to see and test all the Toyota Gazoo Racing models while mingling with thousands of enthusiasts and customers of the brand. An event organized jointly with 8000laps that included track sessions, slalom track, karting and driving simulators; among other things. An ode to sports sensations that very few brands could offer.

Toyota is known worldwide for its hybrid vehicles, which have been ahead of the trends and have helped them keep their CO2 emissions in check. Selling large volumes of sustainable cars also currently allows them exploit your most sporty facet. The experience they have in competition has also helped their range of sports models to be taken into account. Among the new ones, there are some as prominent as the Toyota GR 86, GR Supra and GR Yaris. They are precisely the ones with whom we jumped on the track.

The Toyota GR 86 was the great novelty and raised high expectations. I was left with the desire to take it on the circuit, but instead I was able to take the Toyota GR Supra in its recently released manual variant. His behavior left me with a very good taste in my mouth and convinced that, if I could, I would choose him over the automatic. With the Toyota GR Yaris I had already had the opportunity to shoot at Jarama, but It’s always a pleasure get behind the wheel of this WRC made for the street.

Although the beauty of a day like the Toyota GR Day is not that a few journalists drive the latest news from the sports division on the circuit. The really nice thing was that thousands of fans gathered, including more than 300 who came with their own car to the appointment. The Jarama Circuit car park was a spectacle in itself, due to the large number of current Toyota GRs, but also due to the number of older and more traditional models. Many of them who did not hesitate to enter the track to enjoy with their mounts.

There was such striking specimens like the previous Toyota GT 86, counting by dozens and some with impressive preparations. A few Toyota MR2s were not missing, the small coupé of the 90s for which many of us sighed at the time. Not to mention the Toyota Celica in practically all its generations with special editions like those that came from the rally world and even one of the 70 that took a lot of prominence on the day. All of them did not hesitate to pose on the Jarama finish line to put the icing on the day.

In short, events like the Toyota GR Day are those that fill the soul of fans of the motor world and those who make us see the panorama in perspective. They force you to enjoy the “here and now” and to think that every moment on the circuit with a combustion car that transmits many sensations could be the last. We probably have a few years left of this type of sports car and burning gasoline, but we will make them unforgettable.
