How expensive has it become to recharge an electric car with the rise in electricity?

There has always been talk of the low costs of electric car maintenance. The main reason is its simplicity on a technical level, although it also became apparent with the rise in fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel. However, electricity is also more expensive now and that has reduced the distances. Many will wonder how much it has become expensive to recharge an electric with the increase in light that we experience in 2022 and there is a study that seems to have the answer.

It has been prepared by the eToro multi-asset investment platform, which speaks of a 30% higher cost in just one year due to the increase in the price of electricity. They extrapolate it to a practical case such as making a journey between Madrid and Barcelona with an electric car. If in 2021 it cost around 37.5 euros, in 2022 the costs of charging had risen to 49 euros on average. Always clarifying that the price of this recharge varies greatly depending on where it is carried out, since domestic charging is more expensive than public charging.

If we compare it with a combustion car, there would no longer be so many advantages. In this study, they refer to a SEAT Arona, which was the best-selling car in 2021 and 2022. With an average consumption of 5.1 l/100km, they calculate that the Madrid-Barcelona route would have cost around 48 euros at the beginning of 2022 and 51.5 euros at the end of the year. The truth is that the cost of gasoline did not grow so much in this period due to the bonus of 20 cents per liter of fuel that the Government put in and that has already ended. Without that help, the journey would have been 20% more expensive, in its historical record the Madrid-Barcelona in the Arona would have cost 68 euros.

there is still certain uncertainty about supply in international energy markets. This is because Europe still has some challenges pending in terms of energy and the geopolitical crisis in the continent still persists. also adds the reopening of china, since the consequences that this fact will have on world energy consumption are still unknown. In any case, it is clear that electromobility has very positive things and others that are still not so positive.
