Get used to seeing the Etioca Miner, an electric taxi that wants to change the rules

In Spain we are used to seeing taxis of all kinds. However, there are few that are as unique as the Ethiopian Miner, a model that wants to change the rules of the game. It is the creation of a new firm, based in Gibraltar, which is committed to a different business model. The difference with other traditional taxis is that you do not need to buy it to exploit itsince a subscription model is offered that will include all the services that the vehicle may need.

The company gives its use to the taxi driver in exchange for a fee and includes daily battery exchange, a wash, insurance and maintenance. It is an electric vehicle with a minivan body and plenty of interior space. It has dimensions of 4.95 meters in length, 1.95 meters in width and 2.01 meters in height. It moves through a 163 hp electric motor and its top speed is limited to 150 km/h. And it has a peculiarity in its main component.

The 100 kWh battery is not charged conventionally as in other electric ones. At Etioca Miner, a system of quick battery swap in specific seasons. Thus, waiting times for recharges are eliminated and, in addition, a autonomy of 350 kilometers, so you could travel around 700 kilometers a day with that exchange. Another detail that it has is that the driving position is isolated from the rest of the taxi to improve safety and protection.

The cabin where the passengers travel is very large, it is made up of seven modular seats and another for people with reduced mobility, who access through a lift platform. There is no lack of a complete digitization inside, in addition to the addition of some outdoor screens that function as a communication channel and open the door to advertising. In the back of the Miner you can transport all kinds of large objects such as bicycles, skis and snowboards.

This Etioca Miner has been designed by himself Giorgetto Giugiaro and will start hitting the roads imminently. The goal is that by the end of 2024 they have marketed 10,000 taxis. Afterwards, it will grow at a good pace to reach an annual production of 45,000 units in 2025 and of 100,000 units by 2027. Pre-reservations are already accepted in countries such as Spain, Italy, Israel and Latvia.
