The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 debut 48V Mild Hybrid technology

Stellantis has been working on the electrification of all its brands for some time. In some it will be easier to reach than in others, but it is clear that progress is being made at a good pace. For example, at Peugeot they are about to launch a 48V Mild Hybrid technology that will be present in two of its most important models. We are talking about two SUVs that have been leading their sales lists for some time: the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. They already had the plug-in hybrid variants available and now others are coming with the ECO label.

This system will soon reach more Peugeot and Stellantis models to complete the electrified experience in their ranges. In the case of the 3008 and 5008, it is an evolution of the 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder engine to which a 48V microhybrid system has been added. All new components are under the hood, except for the extra battery that has been installed under the left front seat. With this configuration, their efficiency and some other performance figures improve.

These Peugeot 3008 and 5008 48V Hybrid have a power of 136 CV and 230 Nm of torque. They are always linked to e-DCS6 automatic transmission, whose name means that it is a six-speed dual-clutch box that has been electrified. In its casing it remains integrated the e-Motor, a small 21 kW electric motor that supports the combustion engine and also regenerates energy. There is no shortage of other systems such as the 48V strap starter or the battery typical of this technology, which makes it possible to have two electrical networks.

The result is that these Mild Hybrid models reduce your fuel consumption around 15% and also emit less. Although approval is still pending, it is estimated that they will consume one liter less and that their CO2 emissions will be reduced by 20 g/km on average to start from 126 g/km. The benefits are obvious and it is said that it could work up to 50% of the time on electric when driving in urban environments. The highlight will be the sail mode at cruising speeds and the extra contribution of torque when required.

Models fitted with the 48V Mild Hybrid system will also receive specific functions on the screen, in which the electrical conduction, the energy flow, the battery charge or the percentage of distance traveled in electric will be displayed. They will mount an AVAS that emits an external sound to alert pedestrians when driving at less than 30 km/h. These versions for the Peugeor 3008 and 5008 serve as a replacement for the PureTech 130 EAT8 and will arrive during the second quarter of 2023.
