Marc Márquez is fed up with Honda. The Cervera rider once again experienced a disappointing weekend at the Italian Grand Prix. Despite the fact that he managed to qualify second thanks to a great wheel spin from pecco bagnaia, the lack of pace dropped him to seventh in the sprint race on Saturday, but the worst came on sunday.
The Catalan managed to hold on to the top positions early in the race by pushing his Honda over the limit, until on lap six, while chasing Luca Marini in the fight for third place, his bike said enough and Marc crashed.
After the race, Márquez spoke about the problems that Honda has had since the start of the season and ensures that the bike does not allow him to fight to be at the top of the grid.
“Reliable or not, safe or not, it all depends on the ambition of the pilot. And not only that. I could be from 10 to 15 and finish all the races and it would be a reliable, safe bike. You always want more. And it could be from 8 to 10, more or less, being a reliable and safe bike, but finishing 15 seconds behind the race leader. That’s what I don’t want. And even more so when in 2021 and 2022 he was physically limited, it was very easy to finish the races on 10, 9, 8 and he knew how to do it and nothing happens”, he said in statements to ‘DAZN’.
The Spanish rider assured that the bike does not even give him security to be able to push and asks that the Honda be “safer”: “If we continue with this philosophy, there are two options: either lower the piston a bit, because if there aren’t many options for us to get injured again or continue to evolve the project and for new things to arrive to be closer to those ahead. Or no longer closer, to the same place, but with more security”.
“When you see that two riders like Rins and Mir come, who were among the most reliable on the grid, who did not crash. Mir, in one season had crashed 12 times, he has already crashed 12 this year. They say: ‘Márquez falls a lot’. No, all Honda riders crash a lot. That is what is really worrying, what we have to try to change in the future, because With these bikes you go fast and the more falls, the more chances of injury there are. I continue with the same mentality. In Germany I will go out and again with a knife, to see what I can get and to squeeze the orange to the maximum”, asserted Márquez.
He also complains that improvements are not coming from Japan that allow the team to take a leap forward: “You always want more and our job on the circuit, both mine and that of the entire technical team on the circuit is to gather information and pass ideas and engineers in Japan, who are leading the projectcontinue with that line and bring new things. If new things are not brought, it cannot be tested. It’s hard sometimes to know what’s going on in Japan. What arrives here; what not Since we started the season, we have only received one chassis, not much more and we are in a situation where we need to receive a lot more to continue closing the gap with the other manufacturers, if we can.”
Márquez assures that he is committed to Honda, although he puts homework on his team: “I have told them that my commitment is maximum all this year and all the next to try to work, try to continue evolving and turn the situation around, but we have to try to change for the future”.
