VW ID.5 | Opinions | Analysis and autonomy in video

There was a time when coupes were aspirational cars, for those who wanted a model to differentiate themselves. That space was taken over by SUVs for a while, but since they already account for 60% of sales in Spain, the concept of SUV coupé has spread, such as the Volkswagen ID.5, an electric SUV with a more stretched-out body than that of the ID. .4.

There are few driving differences between the two. Because both give priority to the comfort of the passengers, although since you are sitting a little closer to the ground, you can better perceive how the car behaves in a curve. Both maneuver well and, despite the electric nature with a lot of weight in the lower part, the weight and height is noticeable in the curve. The autonomy, as we saw in our test, allows you to make trips with it, as long as you plan stops to charge every 300 km. Inside it is spacious (its shapes do not affect the rear seats too much and the trunk is very good.

It is somewhat more expensive than the equivalent ID.4 and, despite the fact that the interior finishes are much better than those of the brand’s first electric, the ID.3, it retains those disturbing ergonomic flaws that they should think about resolving.

Its rate is high, but not too much if you compare it with a Kia EV6 or a Ford Mustang Mach-E, both with a sportier touch in their behavior, but not as comfortable. The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron is also more expensive… but beware of the new Skoda Enyaq Coupé that points to exactly the same market niche.
