“They make the mistakes of Formula 1 from ten years ago”

KTM is coming back on its feet in MotoGP. Despite the overwhelming dominance of Ducati, Jack Miller and Brad Binder They are the riders who are closest to breaking the Ducatista monopoly. And, despite this, it has not prevented the factory director from charging against the championship.

Pit Beirer spoke to the media at the event at Goodwood and charged against MotoGP and all the aerodynamic evolution that is taking place: “It’s just I do not understand why our great sport the mistakes that were made in Formula 1 ten years ago“.

The aerodynamics are causing difficulty in overtaking and instability on the bikes, a problem that Beirer says the ‘Great Circus’ had and that it was precisely “he left that path because of that”.

“I don’t want to complain that the aerodynamics are bad for the sport. We just have to improve in this area and we are working on that. It is an issue that will stay with us for a long time because we are investing a lot of money“, he added.

In addition, he confessed that it is a thought that exists in other factories: “I deduce from my conversations with Massimo Rivola (his counterpart at Aprilia) that he also has the same concerns and sees this problem in the same way. And that Aprilia has a very competitive bike with a very good aerodynamic package.”

Beirer’s opinion, shared by former pilots

Not only Pit Beirer has charged against the development of aerodynamics. Casey Stonerin one of his multiple attacks on MotoGP he also went against this advance: “A few years ago it was decided to ban all aerodynamic aids, but suddenly that plan was canceled“.

“That’s why Suzuki left MotoGP and I’m worried that Honda and Yamaha will leave because what we have now is not what they committed to. Motorcycles are now Formula 1 cars on two wheels“, he sentenced.

A similar idea was addressed by Stefan Bradl, Honda test driver, in ‘Speedweek’: “In Formula 1 you know the result. You don’t win a race with a Haasyou have to sit in a Red Bull.”

“With a Mercedes or a Ferrari nobody wins either at that time and in MotoGP, as a Honda rider, we also don’t have a chance to win. At least here the differences are not so striking.
