When Stellantis was created, the result of the union of FCA and PSA, many of us thought that there were many brands for a single group. But to someone they must have seemed few and they decided that it was time to revive Lancia. After a first sculpture that advanced the design language, comes the first prototype with wheels. Called Lancia Pu+Ra HPE it is “the vision of the brand for the next 10 years”, in the words of CEO Luca Napolitano.
As soon as we saw it, we remembered a model, the Lancia Beta from the 70s, the first car created by the brand when it became part of Fiat. It was a 2+2 seater, a family-oriented and comfortable car, which in its version H.P.E. added behavior and sports performance. Now, those acronyms mean High Performance Electric (High Electric Performance) since that will be the propulsion system used by the production car that will be based on it.
Even the color chosen for the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE, called Progressive Green it is reminiscent of that spirit of sustainability and also of classic models from Lancia’s vast history. Remember the historic Lancia Flaminia Azzurro Vincennes. But there are also very different things, such as the front, where with three rays of light they reinterpret an area where so much cooling is no longer required.
The side has some fluid lines that fall towards the rear, evoking the Aurelia and the Flaminia (the brand tells us) and highlights that silhouette so wedged towards the front. We also see the new Lancia logo, in which historical elements of the brand are reinterpreted (the steering wheel, the flag, the shield, the spear and the letters). The rear window, with those marked horizontal lines, refers back to the Lancia Beta HPE of the 70s and the round light groups were not common in the firm… but they were worn by the legendary Lancia Stratos.
This continuous combination of past and future is also seen in the interior, which has a circular roof that allows a panoramic view and the entrance of natural light. And it is there where the brand leaves us another clue of what its interiors will be like, in which they look for cozy environments, so that passengers feel at home.
Also in the interior, circles predominate, and, as indicated by the brand, “avoid typical automotive language.” Of course, it does not deviate from the trend of sustainability in the materials used, since 70% of the surfaces were made with sustainable materials.
The following steps
We had already talked about the Lancia Plan, which with this prototype begins to take shape. Its first product will be the new Ypsilon, which will hit the market in a hybrid and electric version in 2024. From there, only electric cars will arrive (from 2026) and they intend to cover the three segments that the brand has always had:
- city cars: With the Ypsilon as the main exponent (it could share a platform with the Fiat 500 or with the DS 3).
- Flagship: Represented in this Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept, which promises up to 700 km of autonomy thanks to its great aerodynamics, with an energy consumption of less than 10 kWh/100 km and recharging times of 10 minutes. will be the 2026 when the Lancia Gammabased on the STLA medium platform, with batteries up to 104 kWh
- Compact sedans: It will be in 2028 when the arrival of the lancia deltaalso based on the STLA platform.
Lancia will reach six markets in the first stage, in addition to Italy (the only place where they continue to be sold), the new models will reach Spain, France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
