Throughout history we have seen several Spanish car manufacturers, some that managed to make history and others that passed unnoticed. Now Liux wants to join the first group with a proposal that is very much in vogue these days. It is a start-up based in Santa Pola (Alicante) that wants to win a future creating electric vehicles. They already have the first projected for 2024 and they will surely surprise many with their sustainable and revolutionary approach in equal parts.
It was in 2020 when Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros and David Sancho They got together and had the idea. During this time they have been maturing the project, obtaining financing and planning what their ideal car would be like. They have grown along the way and are now supported by a team that already exceeds a dozen people. The plan to follow is present its first prototype next month and continue working on the financing to be able to start the construction of its factory in 2023.
Everything indicates that his first model will be the Liux Animal, a kind of electric shooting brake that is made entirely of plant-based materials. That means its bodywork, interiors and part of the chassis are made from organic fiber and resin-based polymers. The data that they leave us is that 90% of the car is made of recycled materials and of vegetable origin, something to take into account. They also want to be based on simplicity, eliminating everything superfluous and staying with a 25% fewer parts and materials than other rivals.
In the end, that also translates into a greater ease in assembly, repair or recycling. In fact, they already anticipate that their manufacturing time, energy and CO2 emissions from the process are reduced by up to 70%. They use a modular platform that allows them to choose the capacity they can have, something very important for new electric manufacturers who want to keep their costs at bay.
That means the Animal (and other cars to come) can mount battery packs to add between 45 and 90 kWh depending on the needs and the autonomy that is desired. With two packages (45 kWh) it will be around 300 kilometers of autonomy and with the four (90 kWh) it will be close to 600 kilometers. They will have 800 V technology to achieve faster charges and the electric motor will be on the rear axle as in other copies of the competition. Technology will also be key and that is why they will be pioneers in 5G connectivity and Android Automotive.
November 10 is the date chosen to present Liux Animal in the form of functional prototype and to start writing the future of this Spanish company. Only time will tell if these first objectives of around 4,500 units per year in its first year of production and reaching 50,000 units in the second half of the decade are met.
