Mercedes celebrates the manufacture of the 500,000 unit of the G-Class with a very special vintage version of the German SUV.

The G-Class is one of the most iconic models not only of Mercedes-Benz, but of the entire automotive industry and now it is celebrating. The 4×4 of the German brand has reached 500,000 units manufactured. This very special unit, which has come off the assembly line of the same factory that has been manufacturing it for 44 years, draws attention because not a conventional G-Class, but a vintage edition.

Mercedes claims that the design of this special G-Class was inspired by a 1986 280 GE. And to get that retro look, the SUV was painted in one of the original colors, Agave Green, along with black for the grille, bumpers, fenders, skid strips, and door handles.

The headlights have protectors And small silver-painted rims with fat tires have been mounted, including at the rear, where a vintage-style vinyl spare wheel is hidden. One detail that Mercedes is particularly proud of is the front turn signals. They have had to use a different bright amber colored plastic to emulate the old look.

The interior of the G-Class also has vintage touches (although Mercedes has not provided images). The seats, according to the German automobile company, have a checkered fabric like the 1986 model that has served as inspiration. On the handle there is a plate indicating that it is model number 500,000 and it is painted to match the exterior.

The G-Class has come a long way since its introduction in 1979. Early models in its history only had between 72 and 150 hp, although they were available in two- and four-door versions and in hardtop and convertible variants. And until the current generation that was introduced in 2018, they had solid axles in front and behind.

Currently, we enjoy more comfortable mechanics with variants up to 415 hp or 577 for the AMG version. And now it has independent front suspension and a much beefier look.
