An F1 champion asks Verstappen to step aside “if he really doesn’t enjoy it”

New stages, more races, the introduction of the format sprint… These are some of the novelties that Formula 1 has presented in recent times. And it has received criticism from some pilots. The most important of the champion, Max Verstappen.

The one from Red Bull, who is on his way to his third consecutive world championship, ‘threatened’ to leave him: “I hope there are not too many changes, otherwise I won’t be here for long.”

Disappointed with the number of races, something that several drivers on the grid share: “We are heading to seasons where you have 24, 25 races at a time, because that is where we are heading and if we start to add even more things, we will not worth it to me…”

Those have been the words of the Dutch. And they already have an answer. damon hill, 1996 F1 champion, encourages Max to leave “if he’s not really enjoying himself.” He has pointed this out in statements to ‘Sky Sports’.

“Verstappen’s threat of withdrawal is strange. I mean, what is he going to do…? You mentioned fun, I think that’s a very important point. Are you having fun? Because sometimes I think he’s not having fun. I think you have to love what you’re doing, otherwise it’s a grind,” Hill says.

And he makes it clear that if Max’s intention is to leave, Red Bull will have no problem finding a top-level driver: “If he doesn’t want to continue in F1 and wants to leave Red Bull, there will be a million people who do want to drive that car.”
