Enrolled in the middle of the campaign for the upcoming elections on May 28, Isabel Diaz Ayusopresident of the Community of Madrid and a candidate to revalidate the position, has spoken in ‘Voz populi’ about various topics, including the possibility of Madrid hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix in the future.
The Madrid leader has been “tremendously positive” about it: “I am convinced, but negotiations still have to be closed and we have to wait. But of course I am tremendously positive“.
Ayuso believes that the capital is booming and has great conditions for the event: “Today, we are the third destination in musicals, the second in concerts, we are a gastronomic mecca, where the best ingredients and the best currents from all places are mixed of the world with Spanish gastronomy”.
“The openness to positive projects and the desire to live spring up everywhere and he expects a very positive legislature in that sense as well”, he added.
What circuit would it be?
If it was speculated at first with the jarama or with another layout in Morata de TajunaAyuso has confirmed that, if it occurs, the Madrid GP will be held in the IFEMA area.
“It would be an urban circuit that is assembled and disassembled. It would not be in Jarama, but in the surroundings of Valdebebas and IFEMA“, has explained.
“We would use the best infrastructures that IFEMA already has and we would join it with the musical mile, with restaurants, shops… There is no Formula 1 circuit in the world like it, right now“, has settled.
When will it run?
It should be noted that Barcelona has a contract with Formula 1 until 2026so the possibility of Madrid hosting a race is postponed, at least, until 2027.
Of course, F1 has the idea of hosting two races a year in Spain and in 2030 Montmeló could return to the calendar.
