There are a few of us who think that the Stellantis Group has many brands after the integration of PSA with FCA to form this new industrial conglomerate, in which various products share components. How to distinguish one from the other? Well, with the design and the driving feel… and the Citroën C5 X does it.
Made on the same basis as the Opel Astra, Peugeot 308 or even DS 9, the EMP2 platform, the truth is that none of them resemble each other. As we saw in our Citroën C5 X test, this is a kind of crossover, with good ground clearance and a fastback-type body. You can see it better in this video:
It is a design that is out of the canons, but it offers a good interior, with surprisingly good finishes for the brand and a very spacious trunk, even in the plug-in hybrid variant that we tested. On the go it is comfortable. A lot, thanks to those hydraulic bump stops. If it had a better rear suspension, which makes the bumps quite noticeable, it would be at the level of premium brand sedans, be careful.
The high finishes are very complete, which makes its price tempting and is not one of the most expensive of its size with that propulsion system. Too bad about the multimedia system, because in that it is something that lags behind other competitors. Will all-wheel drive versions arrive to take advantage of that ground clearance? They are not expected, but they do not match the comfortable approach of the car either, while its rivals opt for a more dynamic touch.
