Toyota and BMW’s outdoor advertising is being vandalized by climate activists denouncing their eco-posturing.
Environmental activists continue their crusade for the climate and in the most imaginative way. If at first they chose to vandalize works of art and even the occasional sports car in car shows, now they have decided to do it in a less damaging and more original way.
Thus, the activist group Brandalism has hacked several billboards throughout Europe to denounce the “greenwashing” or eco-posturing campaigns of Toyota and BMW.
“Their ads are misleading,” says Brandalism

According to this environmental group, both brands continue to “invest heavily” in the sale of polluting vehicles with a combustion engine and only 0.2 percent of the Toyota sold was 100 × 100 electric in 2021.
To denounce what Brandalism considers hypocrisy regarding the fight against climate change of both brands, the activist group has modified some exterior billboards from these manufacturers.
Toyota has pushed its ‘Beyond Zero’ sustainability announcements as it pressures governments around the world to weaken air quality plans and threatens legal action to protect its profits above a livable climate. stated Tona Merriman, spokeswoman for Brandalism. “Your ads are misleading”.
In one of them, vandalized by Brandalism, the president of Toyota appears, Aiko Toyoda, and you can read “Mr. Toyota” and with the phrase “High Carbon Ads. Mr. Toyota says: ‘Fuck the weather’«.
BMW is also a protagonist with an ad that says: “When we check our emissions, the test dummy is you”.
It’s no joke: there is a US state that has asked to ban electric cars
This action comes months after the activist group “hacked” more than 500 billboards across Europe to criticize the role played by Airline advertisements encouraging pollution. The various satirical artworks used airline names and brands to highlight and mock the damage the industry does to the environment.
