Although Alpine is focused on full electrification by 2026, they are still delivering its last tails of combustion. In fact, we could say that they are doing it in style and with creations as extreme as the Alpine A110 Pikes Peak. It is a creation made uniquely and exclusively for the mythical Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, one of the most renowned competitions worldwide. The copy with which they will try to complete “the race to the clouds” has a most outstanding preparation.
For its first entry in this race, Alpine has teamed up with Signatech to create a truly special A110. The climb to Pikes Peak, in Colorado (United States), consists of 19.93 kilometers of ascent, in which it goes from being at 2,866 meters above sea level to crowning at no less than 4,301 meters. There are 156 curves with an average slope of 7%. Due to these characteristics, the most important thing is to get extreme downforce to keep the car glued to the ground and a mechanic prepared to resist the lack of oxygen at that height.
The first images of the Alpine A110 Pikes Peak have already been revealed and it is quite clear that the aerodynamic issues have been resolved. presents a bodywork widened to the extreme, with additions such as the front splitter, the wheels, the side skirts, a rear wing in the purest Le Mans style or a huge rear wing divided into two pieces. Even so, some original elements are maintained that allow it to continue being suitable for the category Time Attack 1. The lighting signature also changes for purely aesthetic reasons, although always with nods to the competition.
Of the mechanics, the truth is that no details have been given, but there is talk of a power close to 500 hp and solutions such as the roof air intake to be able to oxygenate the engine and compensate for the decrease in power. The weight of the Alpine A110 Pikes Peak remains at just 950 kg and its goal is to break records. The pilot will try Raphaël Astier, who already has experience with the brand by winning the 2022 FIA R-GT Cup with an A110 Rally. In any case, we will have to wait until June 25, 2023 to see how Alpine’s journey ends at Pikes Peak.
