First was Marc Márquez with the Honda, now it has been fabio quartararo with the Yamaha. Both have issued warnings to their teams: their bikes are not competitive. These days the Valencia tests are being held, which are already used for the next season.
And Quartararo is clear that things are going wrong: “There is something that is not working. We did tests in Misano, Barcelona, Cal Crutchlow did tests in Motegi and Jerez, there was clearly an improvement in the engine, but today we had the same thing as the Last weekend”.
“It is incomprehensible because in theory the engine has more power than the one in the Barcelona and Misano tests, and we end up with it being exactly the same as in 2022,” said the French driver.
He affirms that the speed of his motorcycle is insufficient: “I find it very strange that it was much better there. Here I did 327 km/h once, the normal thing was 324 km/h on average, but why don’t we have that speed we had in Misano and Barcelona, and the speed that Cal had in the private tests of Motegi and Jerez?
But it is not the only thing that has convinced him. It’s not just the power of the engine, but also the aerodynamic part: “No, we haven’t found anything. What we really wanted was a new fairing with more downforce. It’s better, but if you don’t have the power, it’s even slower on the straight”.
And he gets frustrated seeing that they are far from the fastest: “At the moment we don’t have the potential. With a bike like the one we tested in Misano or Barcelona, we can hold the Ducati on the straight; Right now, the potential we have is really very mediocre.”
