One more year (and there are already eight editions) we returned to contribute our grain of sand in the solidarity event Suzuki Litros x Kilos. The mechanics are identical to other occasions. It is necessary to reduce the approved consumption of the models, in a distance of 57.3 km, which the brand then transforms into food for the Banco de Alimentos de Madrid Foundation. A record number of 6,623 kilos of foodto reach a total of 31.6 tons in its history.
This year there was something new. And it is that the usual motorcycle journalists were joined by a group of famous people who collaborated selflessly. Among them, actresses like Eva Isanta, Elena Ballesteros and Claudia Ferranti; actors like Juan Díaz Pardeiro; presenters such as Verónica Sanz, Agustín Bravo, Javier Alba, Ricardo Reyes and Jota Abril; singers like Manu Tenorio and Daniel Diges; chef like José Carlos Garcia; successful businessmen like Clemente Cebrián and Luis Moratilla (El Ganso) and Javier Bergón (Fundación Anda Conmigo) or comedians like Serna Díaz. The recently appointed Suzuki Ambassador, Joaquín Prat, also attended.
In teams in pairs in which we both had to drive, we had to reduce as much as possible the consumption in the WLTP combined cycle of the Suzuki Vitara 1.5 Strong Hybrid and the S-Cross 1.4 Mild Hybrid, on the outskirts of Madrid. We were lucky the Suzuki S-Cross, which approves 5.8 l/100 km.
Lowering the fuel consumption of a car requires knowing the vehicle well (in this case a mild hybrid, with a 48V electric battery capable of providing up to 13.6 CV of power) and being restrained when using the accelerator. With a dose of patience and a lot of sweat (we avoided the use of air conditioning and opening windows), we managed to lower consumption to 3.4l/100kma figure 42.4% lower than that approved.
It was the best mark of the day… but another couple managed to be a little faster and were the winners of this test in which, beyond victory, it is interesting to be able to help in such a noble cause. I doubt that we would have been able to achieve the consumption of the Suzuki Vitara, lowered by the winning couple to 3.1 liters l/100 km, which represents a reduction of 46.5%.
The food delivery will take place at the facilities of the Madrid Food Bank Foundation on June 21. Several Suzukis will be loaded with food, some basic necessities such as oil or milk, which will be distributed among legally recognized Charities in the Community of Madrid to later be distributed among people without resources.
