Fernando Alonso he will start his project at Aston Martin very soon. So much so that before the end of the year will drive the green car. The great unknown is what both parties can aspire to in 2023. ‘The Mission’ will start very shortly and the team already knows what they should aspire to.
Tom McCulloughperformance director of the team, has detailed on the Aston Martin website what the objectives are for the coming year: to be leading the middle zone to begin with… and end up reaching the top.
This is what he says: “We want lead the middle pack and then move on from there. To do that, we have to be aggressive. We tried to be as aggressive as we could this year, but with the budget cap and the resources available it has been difficult.”
And he explains how the budget limit has influenced them this season: “The front wing, for example, is practically the same as the one at the beginning of the year. We could have done many things, but we couldn’t afford it within the budget limit, especially after the changes we made in Barcelona”.
What will happen next year? McCullough anticipates it: “By 2023, we have to put all our ideas together and learnings this year to make a significantly better car. Everything is relative, as the other teams will do the same, but we believe that the path we are on now is the right one.”
“The team has grown a lot this year. Many talented people have joined the team, including Dan Fallows and Eric Blandin. Both Dan and Eric have integrated seamlessly into the team and that is evident in the way we have developed the car this year. There has been steady progress since his arrival,” he details.
Aston Martin has made many signings to develop the car. Construction of the new factory and new wind tunnel will be critical: “The new team members have settled in well. There are a lot of new ideas and they are complementing skills and experience.”
“Most importantly, everyone is pushing in the same directionwe know the direction we need to go,” says the director of performance.
