Fernando Alonso promises war in the sprint: “The car is going well”

will start seventh Fernando Alonso in Sunday’s race at the Austrian Grand Prix. For the first time behind his teammate in Aston Martin, Lance Stroll. But the Asturian is optimistic and believes that there may be a comeback.

The reason for this position, he believes, could be the tires. Alonso only had a few new soft at the moment of truth due to the invalidation of one of his laps by the track limits.

“In general, it has not been ideal to use one more set of soft tires after the canceled lap, but I am happy because it is a good starting position”, explained the Asturian, who despite everything left with a good taste in his mouth: “I am optimistic, the car is going well.”

And he believes that in the sprint, which will foreseeably be in the rain, many things can happen: “The sprint is going to be interesting with the weather changes. It will be perfect because we will be able to face different conditions in the same weekend.”

Rainfall is expected both on Saturday (mini qualifying and sprint) and on Sunday’s race. So the conditions will have nothing to do with it. Alonso looks at the sky… and does not rule out a new podium in Red Bullring.
