Ferrari explains how Adrian Newey turned down his offer

Adrian Newley He is one of the most ‘persecuted’ personalities in Formula 1 without being a pilot. He is the creator of several world champion cars and is currently in Red Bullwhere he will continue after renewing his contract.

The most important teams have tried to get their services. Piero Ferrari, son of the founder of Ferrari, has told how they tried to convince him. He has told it in the magazine ‘Autosprint’.

We have to make do with the equipment we have at the moment. The problem is that with the current budget limits, you have to decide how much to invest to improve the current situation without jeopardizing the work for the 2024 car…” said Piero.

And he explains how Newey rejected them: “He said no to Luca di Montezemolo and Jean Todt. He apparently doesn’t want to move, he likes to stay in England. Also, aside from his indisputable abilities, he doesn’t do it alone. He has very good people around him.”

“It’s not a thing now that they are so strong. Today Red Bull wins with hybrid engines, but before the team won with naturally aspirated engines. Sebastian Vettel won four world championships with them and that certainly wasn’t a coincidence,” he recalls.

At Ferrari they still can’t believe they are so far from Red Bull. And they surrender to what they are getting. Carlos Sainz was very angry not because of the fourth position in the constructors’ championship, but because of the difference with Max Verstappen and Checo Perez.
