That brands are striving to be more sustainable is no secret. All car manufacturers are reducing their emissions throughout the production cycle and that starts with making factories more efficient. Also for betting on renewable energies as is the case of Ford. The oval firm has chosen the best possible location to carry out an action that will help to significantly reduce its carbon footprint. And it is going to create a solar plant in Valenciaprecisely in its well-known facilities in Almussafes.
If Spain is known for something, it is for its good weather and number of hours of sunshine a year, especially the Levante area where the factory is located. This makes it the perfect location for a photovoltaic plant that is already working, but has a much greater projection. The initiative began in late 2022, with two large areas of solar panels converting that solar energy into electricity for the factory. could currently supply some 1,400 average householdsalthough it has only just begun.
It currently has a production of 4,641 MWh per year, but another 3,762 MWh will be added this summer. That leaves us with the Ford solar plant in Valencia having a capacity of 8,403 MWh at the end of 2023, the equivalent of what 2,500 average households spend. It will serve the factory to significantly reduce its demand for electricity and become more sustainable. The oval firm will take advantage of other non-productive land to expand the solar panel areas and be able to have 10 MW of maximum power by 2024. The feasibility of installing solar panels on the roofs of the facility buildings in the future is even being studied. .
And the truth is that since last year all the electricity used in Almussafes already comes from renewable sources. It’s something that applies to all of Ford’s European facilities and an exercise in constantly finding ways to increase the use of clean energy. The goal is to get thecarbon neutrality by 2035 in terms of world production. In addition, it is good news for the Spanish plant, since of course the American brand continues to invest in our country, despite the fact that there have been some doubts along the way.
