Sometimes when accidents happen, if the environment allows it, one of the priorities may be to get out of the vehicle. In the event of a crash, it may happen that the doors are locked, and that the only possible escape route is through the car windows. Of course, breaking tempered glass is not an easy thing to do with a clean hand, so you need a tool.
There is an idea that when removing the headrests we have at our disposal two pointed metal rods, ideal for the task. However, in the event of an accident, carrying out this operation can be quite complex. With this in mind, Ford’s engineering division developed a completely simple systemwhose patent was filed in 2021 but now that it has just been published.

The system simply consists of the metal that supports the vehicle’s front sun visor also serving as a glass-breaking toolmaking it easy and convenient to access that device in case of an emergency.
Sun visors are a common item in cars and on the other hand, few people buy any kind of tool to break windows in an emergency. In case the doors are locked and the electrical system does not work, Breaking the car glass can be the difference between life and death in a fire.

This Ford patent is a great example that not everything is invented yet. A simple idea about an item that has been in use for decades, and can now potentially save lives. Implementing this idea would not require a large investment, making it quite viable for production. Hopefully Ford will release this patent so that other manufacturers can also use this solution.
