The new Ford Mustang GT3based on the new 2024 Mustang Dark Horsewas presented today during the celebration of the centenary of the 24 hours of Le Mans, thus confirming its upcoming participation in the most important endurance race in the world.
This race car stands out for its bold and imposing appearance courtesy of Troy Lee, who is recognized as one of the world’s leading designers in motorsport. The legendary Mustang GT3 represents this iconic designer’s first foray into Ford race cars.
With this presentation, Ford officially enters Mustang in global FIA GT3 category. Ford’s most recent win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was in 2016 with the Ford GT.
“Ford and Le Mans are linked by history. And now we are returning to the most exciting, most challenging and important race in the world”Jim Farley, president and CEO of Ford Motor Company, said in a statement.
“It’s no longer Ford vs. Ferrari. It’s Ford against everyone. Returning to Le Mans is the beginning of building a global motorsports business with Mustang, just as we are doing with Bronco and Raptor in the off-road segment.”he added.
For this project, Ford Performance extended its relationship with two of its partners; Multimatic and M-Sport. Multimatic, builders of the iconic Ford GT, are also involved in the Ford GT racing program and will help build and support the Mustang GT3, while World Rally Championship partner and two-time championship winner, the M-Sport team, it will assemble the Coyote-based 5.4-liter V8 engines, developed by Ford Performance.

Already entered into technical issues, The Mustang GT3 features bespoke long- and short-arm suspension, rear-mounted transaxle gearbox, carbon fiber body panels, as well as a unique aerodynamic package developed to meet GT3 goals.
Before Ford returns to Le Mans in 2024, Mustang GT3 will compete in various GT3 series around the world. The first challenge will be faced by the Proton Competition team. Based in Ehingen, Germany, Proton will race a pair of Mustang GT3 vehicles in the FIA World Endurance Championship, starting in 2024.
Ford Performance will also introduce a two-car production race program featuring Mustang GT3s in the IMSA GTD Pro class.. This will be managed by Multimatic Motorsports and will start at the 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Ford took advantage of the reflectors to introduce new global brand Ford Performance, with a cleaner and more simplified look that will now be featured on all of its racing vehicles. This new identity will help position Ford Performance as a leading lifestyle and sports-minded brand.
