Much has been said in recent weeks about the current format of Formula 1, about the sprint racing and about the free practices on Friday and Saturday. and now it has arrived George Russell and has surprised many with his proposal.
Because the Mercedes driver thinks that there are plenty of trainings. This is how he commented in statements to ‘Motorsport’, where he compared what happens in F1 with F2 or F3, where only one free practice session is held.
“I don’t think it’s right that Formula 1 has triple the practice that you have in the F3 and F2 categories,” said Lewis Hamilton’s teammate at Mercedes.
He is convinced that with some free ones it would be more than enough: “I think that one session is good enoughfor all of us to do what we need to to try to help develop.”
Although he acknowledges that these tests help the pilot to gain confidence and, therefore, speed on the track: “Obviously the more you train, the faster you are and more comfortable you feel with the car”.
Will Formula 1 consider a change in the short term? At the moment the free ones continue and so it will be in baku. Although the increase in the number of sprints has added new details to the 2023 calendar.
