It seems that Brussels would have raised a draft in which synthetic fuels are part of the CO2 neutral strategy of 2035.

When everything may seem simple there always ends up being a way to stir it up. Until recently you knew that in 2035 in the European Union it was not going to be possible to sell anything that was not an electric vehicle. You could be more or less in agreement but the measure was clear. However, after a few days Germany and Italy led a manifesto in which they opposed this measure and days later it seemed that said decision was postponed indefinitely. Well, now Brussels has raised a possible fit of the synthetic fuels within the framework of the negotiations for the ban on the sale of combustion vehicles in the European Union (EU) from 2035.

A measure that arises from the veto of the German country who asked that this type of fuel be officially included. Well, according to a document to which both Reuters as Europe PressBrussels states that “vehicles that run exclusively on carbon-neutral fuels must also demonstrate that cannot run on any fuel that is not carbon neutral”, that is, of fossil origin. In this sense, manufacturers should iinclude a number of systems to check that vehicles with synthetic fuels really use this type of carbon-neutral fuel and not others either “through induction fueling systems” thus preventing these vehicles from starting if they are fed with fuels that are not carbon neutral.

The ban on marketing combustion vehicles (including gasoline, diesel and hybrid vehicles) from 2035, was postponed without a new date, jeopardizing the adoption of the new standard, which is part of the climate package that the EU wants to promote this legislature to reduce by at least 55% the polluting emissions of the block in the horizon of 2030 and with respect to those of 1990. Now various community sources warn that for the moment no response from berlin Regarding this draft, it would include a new category of carbon-neutral combustion engines that use e-fuels. In addition, from the European Commission they defend that this fit of fuels synthetics will not affect the closed agreement already between the European Parliament and the Twenty-seven regarding the ban on marketing combustion vehicles in the EU from 2035.

The third vice president and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, criticized at the beginning of March that Germany’s objections to the ban on combustion cars from 2035 generate “noise and uncertainty about the decisions of the EU and the proper functioning of the institutions, does not help innovation trends and is not useful for the industry”. For its part, Transport & Environment (T&E) has warned that the synthetic fuels defended by the German government would increase the average cost of filling a tank up to 210 euros. It also calculates that by 2030 this type of fuel could be around 2.8 euros per liter, 50% more than current fossil fuels, meaning that only the wealthiest drivers will have access to them.
