These last few years have seen many announcements and changes for Sling. We have not only talked about its powerful attack on the SUV segment, but also how the brand is preparing for a fully electrified future, with clear strategies for all markets and segments where they participate.
In 2021, for China, a new range of models called in, of which we were able to meet two models related to the HR-V and that will be 100% electric. Along with that announcement, three more models appeared: a hatchback, a sports sedan and an SUV.
This model you are looking at is the e:N2 Concept and it seems to be an evolved version of the e:N Coupé that was presented on that occasion, with some elements that timidly approach production. Its unveiling has just taken place within the framework of the China International Import exhibition in Shanghai.
We know very little about the substance of this model, considering that it is still in the conceptual stage, therefore, all the explanations that Honda has made about the model are very general:
- A sharp and dynamic design that enhances a strong and modern appearance, but is also unconventional.
- A minimalist but cozy interior that is committed to providing “intellectual stimulation”. Hidden screens, touch panels, leave room for other comfort elements such as aromas and lighting.
- Technology cannot be missing, including the latest generation of the Honda Connect system and the Honda Sensing 360 assistance package, which includes the “Traveling Prophet” program, which can anticipate cars coming from intersections with poor visibility and make automatic lane changes.
The e:N2 will be mounted on the e:N Architecture F platform, which seeks to match the advantages offered by a platform dedicated to electromobility (space, center of gravity) but without losing the dynamic characteristics for which Honda is known.
Toshihiro Mibe, the man who rules Honda globally, commented: “The e:N2 Concept represents all the value of our e:N family, where it redefines how entertaining an electric car can be, offering a unique and pleasurable level of driving, revealing its value as a space for mobility and design. China, Honda will continue to deliver a wide range of electrified mobility-related products unique to the brand and enabling us to experience our renaissance as an electromobility company.”
Everything indicates that the e:N2 could be something like a future “Electric Civic”, following Volkswagen’s strategy of showing an electrified range parallel to its conventional models.
What is worth noting is that the e:N models have nothing to do with the cars that Honda will manufacture in the United States together with GM (the Prologue). For now, the brand prefers to have different strategies depending on the partners it has in different markets. The e:N2, in this case, will surely be manufactured by GAC or Dongfeng.
