Honda hits rock bottom with its debacle in Assen: “We’re in sh*t”

honda bleeds out. The Japanese team is in the most delicate moment in its history after a disappointing start to the season in which they have spent from being a leading team to being at the bottom of the grid.

The crisis broke out at the German Grand Prix, in which Marc Márquez decided not to run after suffering five falls. The man from Cervera then assured that the bike was not giving more and that it was too dangerous to drive.

All Honda riders have sustained injuries in the first section of the season and they are, by far, the ones that have gone to the ground the most.

History has repeated itself at the Dutch Grand Prix. Despite the fact that Márquez has not suffered any major problems, apart from a drop in the standings due to a driving error, failed to get past seventeenth position in the ‘qualy’ or in the sprint race.

This morning, the ’93’ went to the medical center to undergo a check-up in which he has been diagnosed with a rib fracturefor which he was declared ‘unfit’ to run.

The situation has caused the tension to increase in the Honda box, to the point that the team manager, Alberto Puig, has opened the starting door for him. “We don’t want to keep anyone who is unhappy here“, he said in a statement.

After the race, from which Honda left empty after the withdrawal of Iker Lecuona Due to mechanical problems, Puig spoke to the media to clarify the team’s position.

Hit and almost sunk

“Now we are talking about mistakes because we are in the shit. But we have also done good things. I think that if you look back, in 2020 we had the covid, Marc was injured, and from there we have had a downhill”, explained Puig.

The Honda boss also wanted to make it clear that the decision not to race was exclusively Márquez’s: “Marc decided by himself to come here. I was sore, because after five crashes in Germany you can imagine how you are. But over the weekend he has been feeling worse, and finally this morning he went to the doctor and saw that it was not possible.”

Márquez has the exit door open

When asked about Marc’s future, I have reiterated that the doors are open for him to leave the team if he wishes.

“We have a contract, but on this question I have to say that I believe that each person is free to do what they want in life, and Honda is not a company that wants to have people who are not happy“, has sentenced Alberto Puig.
