How to make 300,000 cars a year with 1,200 employees? This is the Aiways method

airways It is one of those Chinese brands that have come to stay. Its product range is increasing little by little, while they are gaining ground in our market. The next addition is the Aiways U6 that we have already been able to see in person and many more will follow thanks to its platform MORE. The main key of these manufacturers is the versatility that they achieve with a single architecture, in this case it will be able to give life to up to 15 models while maintaining low production costs.

In fact, at its plant in Shangrao (China) there is talk of a capacity of up to 300,000 units per year. A figure to take into account, especially when barely 1,200 employees work there. The reason for this ratio is because these facilities have been developed with the help of Siemens and present a high degree of automation. It is quite a radical change from the more conservative industry and is based precisely on digitization and that extremely flexible vehicle architecture.

The Airways facility in Shangrao features a automation rate greater than 90%. It is one of the most modern in the world and has a digital manufacturing system that replicates authentic production processes in real time and performs a constant comparison of objective/actual value. That translates into a absolute synchronization between the real and the virtual world that allows them to reach those 300,000 units working at full capacity. Various types of robots are involved during the process, which are what allow these figures to be reached with 1,200 employees.

In the body shop of the Shangrao plant there are 410 Kuka robots with a production capacity of 30 bodies per minute. There is also a paint shop of almost 60,000 square meters which is really efficient. Thanks to Eisenmann equipment, it consumes up to 50% less energy and produces almost a 90% fewer chemicals with BASF paint. The assembly part has been carried out by the German company Dürr and rounds off some very modern facilities from which more and more cars will leave for Europe.
