All Aston Martin fears have been confirmed in Hungary. The ninth position of Fernando Alonso and the tenth of Lance Stroll are the definitive proof that the performance of the Silverstone team has plummeted and that it was not due to a specific situation that could be attributed to the Spielberg or Silverstone circuits.
After the race, Mike Krack, Aston Martin’s team manager, expressed his concern about the direction of the team. “The result is disappointing, but it is also a reality check. We’ve had a couple of races where we thought it was specific to the track and we thought we could be fast here and we haven’t been,” Krack told ‘DAZN’.
The Luxembourg engineer does not evade his responsibility and admits that Aston Martin must react: “This shows that we are not where we were. Other teams have passed us. This is the ground that we have to recover and there is no way to hide, you have to improve the car“.
However, he believes that the situation is not irreversible given the enormous equality on the grid: “The difference is not very big, but there are a lot of people grouped and there you end up eighth or ninth in the car ranking. I feel sorry for the pilots because they have given the maximum. They need a better car and we will work hard to do that.”
The Aston Martin boss assures that they are not going to abandon the development of the AMR23 to focus on the 2024 car.
“We don’t look at 24, we have to raise our level with this car. The regulations are stable and there are always things that can be transferred to next year’s car. But we really have to work hard to catch up with some cars ahead again,” concluded Mike Krack.
