Athough it does not seems, the world of restomods does not only include works related to the Porsche 911 or with electrifications of other classics. The truth is that there are workshops that developed projects that had other cars and ideas as protagonists, which now seemed to have no place in this world.
The preparer that stars in this particular restomod is Eccentrica Cars. It turns out that its owner, Emanuel Colombini, who in addition to owning the workshop and one of the most important companies in Italy in the furniture world and interior design, he’s a huge Lamborghini fan. The millionaire not only collects “Lambos”, but also drives them in competitions, since he is an amateur driver in the Super Trofeo single-brand category.
Colombini’s dream was to make his own restomod based on one of his favorite cars, the famous Lamborghini Diablo, one of the iconic supercars of the ’90s and which managed to write its own legend as successor to the immortal Countach.
The Lamborghini Diablo, a good base to improve
There is some truth in Colombini’s words, that modern cars today are very sterile in their engineering, while cars from 2005 onwards still retain much of the analog in their dynamic experience. On the other hand, today’s technology allows technical solutions that many engineers would have dreamed of putting into production on their models.
The restomod world meets the need to take a car from yesteryear, with many analog systems that gave it its own character, and polish it with more modern solutions that do not betray the basic essence of the original. I am sure that many users of classic vehicles would not mind at all having a good electrical architecture, or a better quality interior, unless they are purist and historical collectors.
The truth is that The original Lamborghini Diablo, from the early ’90s, wasn’t the most comfortable or practical car on the market. So what did Eccentrica Cars do? a restomod that does not go unnoticed, either for what is done inside, as well as on the outside.
Eccentric Diablo: Exterior
The project featured one of the first Lamborghini Diablo, from the early ’90s. The design was carried out by BorromeodeSilva, a studio that worked with different famous companies. In fact, the Automobili Amos Delta Futurista restomod was worked on by them, which demonstrates the quality of the final product.
This Lamborghini Diablo was sought to enhance its most striking detailsusing a strong Italian design influence, but also taking reference from the more contemporary and aggressive Diablos like the SV, GT and GTR. Except for the windshield, no part of the exterior was left unworked.
The result is a wider supercar (which helps to look aggressive), although keeping the general length and height. There are dramatic changes, such as the front with more voluminous air intakes, the fenders with air vents, the carbon fiber parts, the round LED lights that protrude from the rear or the intricate work of the engine cover, with air intakes.
There are also other details that could be overlooked, such as the tow hook, hidden as part of the deflectors in the front air intake; the windows were leveled, and the headlights include small visors, which also allows us to see a discreet LED strip for daytime use. Also noteworthy are the air intakes, located on the upper side ends of the chest.
As for the materials, what was not made of carbon fiber was made of titanium, with 3D printing methods.
Eccentric Diablo: Inside
The interior of the Ecentrica Diablo is a mix between precision and quality that can only be achieved with materials and techniques from our decade, but with a design that is almost a love letter to the ’90s. For example, the analog clocks and the tilted dashboard were replaced by different LCD displays with numbers.
The layout of the dashboard somewhat mimics that of the Diablo GT, although it adds large buttons to manipulate the air conditioning. On the other hand, and although we do not see anything that has to do with audio systems or screens for the multimedia system, We know that, in an unprecedented way, Eccentrica requested the collaboration of a major manufacturer of HiFi systems, Marantz.
Details such as the carbon fiber steering column, the discreet grille that hides the air vents, the paddles behind the steering wheel and even the traditional gear lever of a manual gearbox, speak of a high level of attention to detail. There are even three that stand out: on the doors, the contrast of the yellow handles with blue Alcantara upholstery; the Eccentrica logo placed in an “eccentric” way on the steering wheel, and the switches in front of the gear lever, which are to do the ignition sequence of the model, including the fuel pump, the injectors and the electrical system, before starting with a button.
Eccentric Diablo: Mechanics
The Eccentrica engine is based on the 5.7 L aspirated V12, but improved with interventions on the camshafts and valves, as well as including improvements in distribution, injection calibration, a Capristo exhaust system and even a lubrication system. by dry sump. With this, the 492 Hp of the original Diablo goes to 550 Hppower sent to the rear axle via a six-speed transmission.
As the model is still under development, the simulations estimate an acceleration of 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 335 km/h, thus surpassing the original (4.1 seconds and 325 km/h, respectively). Add to this a 35kg reduction thanks to all carbon fiber panels and structures, new suspension arms with adaptive damping, hydraulic steering (the original didn’t have one) and new Brembo brakes and you have a truly unique Lamborghini Diablo. . And one more detail: the wheels are from 19″, and are shod with Pirelli Trofeo Race tyres.
Eccentrica will manufacture 19 personalized units on request, with a manufacturing time of between 16 and 18 months, which includes a testing phase under different conditions. The price to convert a normal Diablo to one prepared by Eccentrica starts at $1,300,000 (€1,200,000), without considering the value of the Lamborghini Diablo that will undergo the changes.
