Through preview images, Lexus showed a little of what is coming in its model portfolio, anticipating the new LBX, an SUV that only with its name gives us some clues. The “X” suggests its connection to the brand’s lineup of crossovers that includes the GX, RX, NX, UX and upcoming TX, and the letter “B” indicates its position in the segment B market (or subcompact).
From what can be seen in the images we notice a rather short front silhouette and aggressively designed LED headlamps connected by a chrome strip. A honeycomb-pattern grille is also seen, while the rear is highlighted by LED lights that run the full width of the vehicle and resemble sunglasses.
As far as is known, the new LBX would share a platform with the Toyota Yaris Cross and that would make it the smallest SUV in the Lexus lineup, still below the UX and directly rivaling vehicles like the DS 3.
The aforementioned platform employs a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5 VVT-i three-cylinder engine with two (FWD) or three (AWD-i) electric motors, producing 114 hp and 88 lb-ft. It is still unknown if Lexus will make use of the same configuration or if it will add a little more power to it.
This model has been talked about for several months, when Lexus registered the name LBX. Surely we will have more and more news these days, since its debut is expected for next June 5
