We have already indicated several times that Mazda wants to take a step forward with the CX-60. If the Hiroshima brand had long been ahead of the general brands in interior qualities and driving feel, now it wants to be considered premium. This adventure began to take shape, in our view, with the MX-30, but it is now with this large SUV when they throw all the meat on the grill.
And it is that this segment is where the toughest battle in the European premium market is being fought, now that the sedans are losing sales. And there, to rub shoulders with the best of the automotive industry, comes the Mazda CX-60 PHEV, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, to give war. In interiors and technological equipment it is clear that it is, providing that Japanese touch that is a breath of freshness. And in our test we saw that it achieves great ride comfort and efficiency:
We already indicated after driving it twice that the rear seats are somewhat scarce for the size of the car and, compared to European premium brands, it is not possible to configure every detail of the car, something that buyers of this type of car value, since it is difficult for them to yours. And it is that the €52,115 starting (60,000 of the Homura finish that we drove) do not make it affordable for everyone… although it is much cheaper than other lineage plug-in hybrid SUVs.
It offers good performance but not exaggeratedly low consumption on the highway. Because they are the trips where you will enjoy the most comfort of travel and there the Mazda CX-60 diesel seems to us a more suitable option, although it will have to settle for the ECO label. Improvable? Well, it lacks that point of agility in the curve that other brand products do have, such as the veteran CX-5
And yes, its price may seem high, but as you can see in the table above, when you compare it with rival models, they are much cheaper than their rivals, with more standard equipment.
