The 2022 season of Mercedes it was very hard. After eight consecutive years winning the Constructors’ World Championship, last year they finished third with just one pole position and one victory. The author of both feats was George Russellwho is confident that the Germans will fight for the title next season.
In statements collected by ‘Motorsport.com’, the British driver affirms that the evolution in the performance of the German single-seater is the main argument for which he believes in the revival of Mercedes: “I think that if we look at the development that we have made this year, there’s nothing that tells us we can’t make it (title fight)”.
“The fact that we are now in a position to fight for victory shows a lot. Maybe at the start we didn’t have the fastest car, but with the current pace and developmentI fully trust this team and that we can fight for the championship“, it states.
Of course, Russell qualifies that they need to follow the path set by the team to compete with Red Bull for the championship: “For two months we have been very clear about the development objectives that we must achieve. And I am quite sure that, if we achieve it, we will have a car with which we can compete against Red Bull“.
