Aston Martin collapses. After a great start to the season, in which Fernando Alonso signed six podiums in the first nine racesthe Silverstone team seems to have stagnated in the middle of the season.
At the Austrian Grand Prix they were overtaken by Ferrari, which took a big step forward and was the second team on the grid in a clear way. But the most worrying thing was to see that the race pace of the AMR23 was lower than that of Lando Norris’ McLaren.
In fact, the ‘papaya’ team has confirmed its enormous progression in the classification of the Grand Prix of Great Britain placing Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the second and third positionrespectively.
But they have not been the only ones to beat Aston Martin. In addition to Versappen and the McLaren, Fernando Alonso has finished behind the Mercedes, the Ferrari and even Alex Albon.
Alonso seeks explanations
This step back in performance has left Aston Martin baffled. Despite both the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone are unfavorable circuits for the AMR23consider that they should have been more competitive.
However, Alonso believes that in the next few races they will fight again for the top positions. “We try to understand the carwe suffer in fast corners, but in slow corners we are doing very well, in Hungary maybe we will fight for the podium again“, said the Asturian in statements to ‘DAZN’.
